Gborho Ahmuyan Association Financial Overview
The Elders Present,
Our Presenters,
Mr. President and Members of the Administration,
Fellow members,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Gborho Ahmuyan has come a long way since its formation. It has evolved from a few members Association in a couple of
States to over hundred members all across the United States. It is now a fully registered non profit organization in
the State of Delaware. We have opened a Bank Checking Account and a Money Market Account. We are in the process of
obtaining a 501(c) 3 status that will enable members to have their contributions tax deductible.
However, in spite of these great achievements, the Associate continues to encounter problems in its revenue
collection efforts.
Due Payments
Due payments have been considerably low and slow among members. Currently, every member is supposed to pay
$10.00 per month and even though our records (data base collected) indicate a high membership of over 200 Gborhos
currently in the US (excluding new arrivals), current due paying members are less than 30%. This continues to hamper
the Association’s ability in implementing relief programs to benefit its members. As a result, members are usually
taxed whenever an emergency occurs.
However, I must admit that there are a few members who continue to show commitment and inspiration when it comes
to paying dues. May I be allowed to recognize Elder and Mrs. Joseph Gaye Sr., Ma Bah Esther Gaye, Victoria Piah
and Susie Today of the Mid Atlantic Chapter. These members, although not gainfully employed, they continue to pay
their monthly dues consistently and to further encourage the young ones, Mr. and Mrs. Gaye would provide food,
drinks and other refreshment during every meeting held at their residence free of the Association expense and
Ma Bah Esther would in most cases pay her share and pay for her daughters when contributions are levied.
She would say Patricia says…. . Through these gestures, our attendance have continued to increase and so
are due payments.
Currently, an amount in dues and pledges to the Association from the various Chapters stand at over $5,000.00.
Bereavement Contribution
The Association continues to experience some unfortunate incidents among members.
During recent years, the Association unfortunately lost some of our brothers and sisters,
fathers and mothers in our community. Members have responded overwhelmingly financially
in these unfortunate situations through voluntary taxation. At present, the total
contribution towards member’s death and bereavement stands at $18,300 with each member
being taxed a $100.00 for any bereavement. Unfortunately though, only a few members
usually pay this amount with the vast majority not paying. This behavior continues to
create financial burden on those who show commitment to pay whatever the Association levies.
Donation
In an effort to bring relief to our people at home, the Association, in 2004, disbursed an amount
of $900.00 to assist with education supplies, material and honorarium for some teachers in the Gborho
Area Schools.
Ladies and Gentle, we believe that communication is vital in aiding the collection efforts of dues and
contributions. In this light, the administration has embarked on establishing a full data base of every
member with their phone numbers and addresses. Members will be billed and written to for outstanding dues
when payment is not received. Also, to fully disseminate information to members in a broad and quick manner
it has been suggested that the Association establishes a website. In this cyber world, a click of a mouse,
will give members the opportunity to obtain full and real time information like meeting dates, updates and
due information from the Association.
Fellow members, we urge you to please get involve in the Association activities and show your commitment by
paying your dues consistently and timely; for we are all aware that an organization can not function without
its basic finances which are derived from dues.
Take this scenario: If all the members, say 200 of us pay our due every month, we could realize 200 x 10 = 2,000/month x 12
= 24,000/year x 5 years = $120,000 excluding returns if we invest the money. This could be used for our benefit and our
beloved Gborho area.
Fellow members, the challenge is ours!!
Thank You
William W. Baye
Financial Secretary, Ahmuyan
